AT LEAST FIVE REPUBLICANS DEFECT in first vote for the US House Speaker. At least 11 Congress members have voted for alternative candidates.
With 8 Republican defections so far, Kevin McCarthy will not be elected Speaker on the first round of voting. House will got to 2nd ballot for first time in 100 years.
