The NAACP began the latest round of lunacy, issuing a “formal travel advisory” warning black people against traveling to Florida, claiming that Florida is “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.” NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson then went on CNN and outright denied the fact that Florida leads the nation in black-owned businesses. That information is, of course, inconvenient to his organization’s racial and political grift.
Piggybacking off of that, Democratic strategist Aisha Mills praised the NAACP on MSNBC. She then made the hysterical political attacks transparent for everyone to see. “I just took my family to spring break in Florida recently,” Mills said. “This is getting to the point where Florida is about to be a terrorist state.” She also said that “as a lesbian, as a black woman, I don’t want to have anything to do with the place.”

She doesn’t want anything to do with Florida, except for taking the entire family there on spring break. Then again, who can turn down a vacation in a soon-to-be terrorist state? Iran is lovely this time of year.
As it turns out, the NAACP also loves vacationing in “openly hostile” Florida, as five board members have boasted about their trips to the state under DeSantis. In fact, the chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors lives in Florida currently. The complaints are all a sham, a grotesque political ploy to whip up hysteria against the one Republican Democrats currently fear most in the 2024 presidential race.

It goes on and on. Florida gay and transgender groups are canceling “pride” events after DeSantis signed into law restrictions on adult performances in front of children. It is supposedly a danger to gay and transgender people that their parades can’t “simulate nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or specific sexual activities” with children present. President Joe Biden thinks that Florida is so extreme that he can win the state in 2024 by bashing it as such.
Does anyone actually believe any of this? Of course not, which is why Florida is bringing in thousands upon thousands of new residents. Not even the people pushing this, including the NAACP and establishment media, believe any of this, which is why they are happy to vacation or even live in this “terrorist state.” They are scared of Florida not because it is “dangerous,” but because its remarkable success under DeSantis could propel him to the presidency.
The rhetoric about Florida, and DeSantis, is only going to get more unhinged as he prepares to announce his presidential run, but it raises a fun question: If Florida is being called a “terrorist state” now, how much more absurd can the rhetoric get as we get closer to the primaries?
